Susan G. Koman 5 K Run

So, I'm not a runner! But a few of my friends and I decided to run the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer 5 K run.  We 'trained' for about a month.  The race day came and other than humidity and rain, it was a pretty nice day.  There were about 5,500 runners.  It was rough getting started because we had to weave through all the people walking, but it was a lot of fun. Funny story.  We had gone just about the 3 miles and we saw a cop car with lights and sirens ahead of us, we got excited and assumed it was the finish so we started to sprint.  When we got to the car, we realized it was not actually the finish, but that we still had about .2 miles to go-CRAP! after using all that energy to sprint, we still weren't done.  But we finished.  I finished 660th overall (K was not impressed and wanted to know why I didn't WIN-I would of had to run the whole thing in 16 minutes-not gonna happen)i had about a 10 minute mile.  It was a lot of fun and think I want to keep it up.
But having said all that it was great to be running for a cause.  I think someone said that as a group we had raised $300,000.  It was a powerful experience to remember those I have known who have died from breast cancer, and it was equally moving to see people running in pink shirts-they were the breast cancer survivors.  A lot of people were running in memory  of someone or in celebration of someone.  I was running  for my little J and for her future.  No, she doesn't have breast cancer, but I was running in hopes of her future and all of our futures.  That hopefully they will find a cure.  The people I know who have passed away-Dawn Ware and Muriel Copier, I hope that the families and the daughters they left behind won't have to face what they went through.  I have plans to run this next year.  It was a great experience.

Me coming across the 'real' finish line.
All of the great girls that ran!  Thanks ladies!

CRAZY WEEK!

So this week has been A LOT busier than the typical week.  We have had a bike rodeo, flag day celebration and parade, baby shower, C helped move two people in, play group, two bbq's, 5K run, Father's day and our Anniversary!

K and the Bike rodeo.  Funny story about this:  He has only been riding a two wheeler for about a month now. He BEGGED me to put his training wheels back on, I laughed saying he would be fine.  We get there, first task-ride in a figure eight inside a track about 12 inches wide (without going out of the track).  come again!  What 6 year old knows what a figure 8 is, and even more, who can keep their wheels that straight!  First time around, he kept going on a circle, and was all over the lines- oh well, he had fun!  Second task, ride AS SLOW as you can inside a two foot wide strip.  come again!  Did you say AS SLOW (keeping in mind 3/4 of the kids either have training wheels or on big wheels).  He did pretty good on that one.  Task 3- Ride inside a 18 inch track, making right and left turn, and stopping, and using HAND SIGNALS when you turn and stop.  So in short, the kids were suppose to stay inside a track, and take one hand OFF the handlebars?!  Needless to say, there were no hand signals during this task for K.  Fourth task:  There were 8 cones set up about 4 feet apart and the kids were suppose to WEAVE their bikes between the cones...come again?!  Two knocked over cones and one crashing to the ground later, he crossed the finish line.  I guess what I learned from this lesson is maybe next time K begs to put on his training wheels I should listen he knew more about the bike rodeo than I did!  But all that matters is that he had fun.
This was a great park that play group was at.  G thought it was great to run and scare the ducks back into the water

J is our bathing beauty!  The weather has been so nice lately, we had to get the little pool out.
K at the Flag day Celebration.  I wasn't actually planning on going to this, but once again he begged me to go-so I did (their only young once-right!).  It was fun.  The school honored the veteran's of school age kids and then had a little celebration.  After they paraded through the neighborhood which K also requested I went on, it was fun to see K enjoying himself.

Dr Phil, Don't Fail Me Now

Giving baby Elmo a 'potty party'
So..meet Baby Elmo, he went on the potty.  As you have probably guessed, we have been potty training G (I don't know why I'm posting this, but I am).  We are going on a couple weeks and he has been doing great!  I used Dr. Phil's way (mostly), and it worked for us-yeah! The first thing he suggests is buying a doll that pees, so we did.  He then says to let the child name it-hence 'baby elmo' (we suggested normal names but G wasn't having any of it, so baby elmo stuck).  There are a list of things you are suppose to do in helping potty train-we did most of them and now things are pretty great!  One of the things he suggests is letting them drink and drink and drink (non-alcoholic, of course).  Capri sun worked terrific for us and they are now referred to as 'potty drinks'.  I should have done it earlier, but I just couldn't muster the strength, I don't know what I was so afraid of, he has done GREAT!
